Description:
JP Foodservice continued acquiring companies as part of its growth strategy during its fiscal year ended June 29. The company purchased Valley Industries Inc., allowing it to serve the rapidly growing Las Vegas market, and Arrow Paper Supply and Food Co. in Connecticut. JP Foodservice also spent $5 million to construct a 45,000-square-foot addition to its distribution center in Allentown, Pa. The company completed the sale of a 22 percent stake held by Sara Lee Corp., of which JP Foodservice is a former subsidiary. The sale, part of a secondary offering, brought JP Foodservice $122.9 million. In February, Chicago-based Sara Lee and JP Foodservice ended talks aimed at merging the two companies' food distribution businesses.
