From the April 28, 1997 Washington Post
Description:
UNC is being acquired by General Electric Corp. as part of an $875 million deal that also includes GE's purchase of Greenwich Air Services of Miami. Greenwich Air also services aircraft. Greenwich had entered into negotiations to purchase UNC in February, a month before GE made its bid for both companies. The acquisition will give GE the ability to offer maintenance services on all major aircraft engines. The purchase of UNC gives GE the capability of servicing small business jet engines. The acquisition is subject to approval by both the federal government and UNC shareholders, a process that could take until summer. The three companies had combined revenue of $4.5 billion in 1996 with a total of 16,200 employees.
