Closings for NATO Summit
The 50th anniversary NATO summit, to be held in Washington April 23-25, will disrupt daily business in and around the Federal Triangle area. The map below shows which streets will be closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. and ending Sunday at midnight. The gray shaded area indicates which federal workers are excused from work Friday. The map also locates major hotels where NATO delegations will be staying. Travelers should expect heavy traffic congestion in and around these areas. Other Closings

Street closings for Thursday-Sunday:
The following streets will be open to pedestrians but closed to vehicles:
Pennsylvania Avenue between Ninth and 13th streets NW on the north.
Pennsylvania Avenue between Ninth and 12th streets NW on the south.
15th Street NW between Independence and New York avenues.
Madison Drive between Seventh and 15th streets NW.
Vehicles will not be allowed south of E Street NW between 10th and 14th streets. Those with business between 10th and 14th streets NW from E Street to Pennsylvania Avenue will be allowed access.
Other transportation concerns for Friday-Sunday:
The Federal Triangle Metro stop will be closed.
With the closing of many federal agencies on Friday, Metro is expecting between 12,000 to 15,000 additional spaces to be available at Metro parking lots.
Metro has also arranged for special overflow parking Friday at the following locations: RFK Stadium, Lakeforest Mall, Jack Kent Cooke Stadium, Ballston Common, Springfield Mall, Fairfax Government Center.
Metro will be running at 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and will operate longer trains Friday and as needed over the weekend.
The following bus routes will be affected by the NATO summit on Friday: 11Y, 13A, 13B, 13M, 30, 32, 34, 35, 36, 52, 54, 60, 62, 64, 67, A42, A46, A48, D2, D4, J11, J13, N7, P1, P2, P6, P17, P19, S2, S3, S4, S5, W13, X1.
Bus routes affected Saturday and Sunday: 13A, 13B, 13F, 13G, 32, 34, 35, 52, 54, 62, 64, A11, A42, A46, A48, J13, S2, S4, V8

Important information:
In District government, only essential employees should report to work. In the federal government, only essential employees should report to work at offices in the downtown impact zone around Federal Triangle. District schools are closed Friday. All employees, except for a skeletal security staff, have the day off.
The U.S. Capitol will begin to restrict public access at 4 p.m. Thursday, starting with the Rotunda. The closure will extend to the second and third floors Friday morning, and the whole Capitol by noon Friday. Doors will reopen at 4:45 p.m. Friday, after the NATO event there ends.
