  Robert M. McCarthy

Occupation/Employer: Self-employed lawyer in private practice for 16 years in Montgomery County.

Elected Offices and Civic Activities: Calvert Institute for Policy Research board; Boy Scouts; Boys & Girls Homes of Maryland.

Why should voters elect you?
"I want to eliminate Maryland inheritance taxes. Taxing people's transfer of their life savings to their survivors is simply wrong. Most politicians support tax reduction. I want this tax to be one of those eliminated. It doesn't raise much money for the government, but it scares old people. Currently a primary function of the office is to audit estates for this tax. Those auditors, accountants and bookkeepers should be transferred to the prosecutors office to audit convicted drug dealers to help enforce criminal forfeiture status. Their current function tends to cause the surviving widows and orphans great concern."

What do you want voters to know about you?
"As a lawyer, I write many wills. A primary concern of my clients is death taxes. Eliminating state inheritance taxes will help."
