County Council District 8
In the races for the legislative branch of county government, all the incumbents on the ballot won their primaries, though in this district the race was hard-fought. Term limits forced only one council member to vacate his seat. Republicans – far outnumbered in solidly Democratic Prince George's – were unable to field a candidate in six of nine council races.

Why should voters elect you?
"Prince George's is a community of people, not a plot of land. Does our county government share this view? We pay among the highest taxes in the metropolis but suffer the worst education. Our volunteer fire departments are going bankrupt. Our sheriff has more duties and fewer resources. But county funds built roads for a stadium that provides seasonal, minimum wage jobs. As your councilwoman, I will investigate our money's use. As a Republican, I am independent of the party in power. I'll work for you."

What do you want voters to know about you?
"Born in Prince George's County. BS in behavioral science. Strongly believe in our community!"

The Voters' Guide was compiled from staff reporting and information provided by the candidates in response to questionnaires from The Washington Post. Each candidate was asked to provide biographical information, a photograph and a brief statement about why the voters should elect him or her. Candidates' responses were edited for length and style.
