Outlook
The Mystics revamped their roster and coaching staff after last season's disappointing debut. Nancy Darsch joins the team from the New York Liberty, where she was head coach the past two seasons. Chamique Holdsclaw, who led the University of Tennessee to three NCAA championships, brings enormous talent to the Mystics and is expected to make a significant contribution in her first year as a professional. Though Holdsclaw's impact is important, the addition of Andrea Nagy to the roster is perhaps just as crucial. A classic point guard with pass-first instincts, Nagy can get the ball to scorers Holdsclaw and Nikki McCray. Newcomers Jennifer Whittle and Shalonda Enis shore up Washington's front court. Alessandra Santos de Oliveira, who missed 14 games last season after straining the medial collateral ligament in her right knee, missed much of training camp while finishing her season in Brazil. Until her injury, she was the team's second-leading scorer and top rebounder.
